The Chemistry Shack! (And Other Buildings)

By far the funniest (and most concerning) building that has resided on the St. Olaf campus was the Chemistry Shack. It was built in 1919 to temporarily house the chemistry department as the campus grew and enrollment increased, and somehow, despite being a shack, did not explode in a chemical accident! It was only used for chemistry for three years, but it has gone done in history as having best name of any St. Olaf building.

Want to learn more about the Chemistry Shack and other campus buildings? Check out the website Evolution of the Hill by Anders Cote! It's a great resource, full of old pictures, interactive maps, and information!
